This is My Story

Hi there! I’m Val Breit. Welcome to my online home.

I started The Common Cents Club to show you two things:

1) Being smarter with your money can be simple, and
2) Being smarter with your money will allow you to create a more fulfilling life

Being wise with my money allowed me to leave a lifestyle that didn’t match my values. Instead of being stuck in that rut, I took a leap of faith, left my stable job, and now I make a living doing what I love…and I hope to help you do the same.

I am a mama of two littles, a wife, an entrepreneur, a child of God, and a money nerd known for wearing big expressions. I am not a natural runner, but I trot anyway. It helps balance the coffee + donut combo I love, and it gives me an excuse to wear running shorts and tennies all the time.

Naturally, I’m frugal, love finding great deals, and discovering new ways to make money working from home. During my teens and early twenties, I accumulated close to $50,000 in debt. I learned about compound interest the hard way, and it changed my life. Now I loathe debt, and even though I was a public school employee earning a modest salary, I paid off all my college debt just over two years after that first payment was due.

I didn’t know it at the time, but wiping out my debt and learning how to live off less than I earned allowed me to later quit my stressful 9-5 job, start my own business working from home, and stay home with my daughter full-time. It was (and still is) a dream come true.

It breaks my heart to hear others whose finances are getting in the way of creating their dream life. I know many of my peers accumulated a pile of student loan debt like I did, so I wrote the book, Pay Your Student Loans Fast to share the steps I used to get rid of my debt fast.

I hope The Common Cents Club and Pay Your Student Loans Fast help teaches and inspires you to save more, spend less, earn more, take charge of your financial future, and create a happier life.

The world needs you to achieve your dreams. So let your light shine and get after it! Start reading the money wisdom and take one step at a time toward meeting your money goals.

Cheers to using common ¢ents,
