Book Summary
The Toothpaste Millionaire is the story of how Rufus Mayflower and his friend, Kate Mackinstrey, tried to become millionaires by making and selling their own toothpaste.
Kate and Rufus became friends when she dropped her books all over the street. Rufus, like a traffic policeman, ran over and stopped the cars so she could gather up her books and papers.
A little later, he got a great idea to make toothpaste. Pretty soon, they started selling toothpaste in baby food jars around the neighborhood. Kate also wrote a letter to The Joe Smiley Show telling them that she had a friend who made toothpaste, and they invited Rufus to be on their show.
Thanks to that interview, Rufus got more than 600 orders!
Rufus’s birthday was coming up, so Kate bought 50 gross toothpaste tubes from an auction for his birthday. When they tried to fill the toothpaste tubes, a lot of toothpaste spilled onto the outside. So, Kate went to see if she could find a building to rent with a tootpaste filler in it. She ended up not just finding a building and a toothpaste filler, but a mechanic as well!
Then they tried to borrow money from the bank, but the manager said, “They’re too young!” So they got Hector the mechanic to borrow money for them.
Their toothpaste business grew, and they sold toothpaste for 15 cents per tube, while the competitor’s toothpaste was 79 cents per tube.
Sparkle, Dazzle, and Brite toothpaste businesses grew jealous of their success and offered to buy their stock and tried to get them to adjust their prices. When that didn’t work, they hired Joey the Bomb to blow up the toothpaste factory!
Will Rufus become a millionaire with his toothpaste business after all?
