I love the written word. I have a hard time writing and comprehending written word without editing it. I naturally want to improve how sentences are written. Brevity is not my strength. I am a word nerd.
If you’ve ever been called “The Grammar Police” or were appalled to find typos in professionally published books, you understand.
I am also a money nerd. I cannot wait to attend FinCon2018–“where money nerds unite”–for the first time. I am always looking for ways to work smarter with my money. To say I’m frugal is putting it lightly. I will invest in things that are important to my core values and make my life easier. But everything else? Give me the best deal and cashback too!
Since creating my own business online, I have been happier than ever in the work department because I am finally finding ways to combine these gifts.
Read my example of how I blend these two interests of mine over at a huge self-publishing website, The Book Designer, where I teach aspiring and successful authors how they can get amazing editing for less money.
“The Book Designer is the most authoritative source online for information on how to independently publish and promote books. It is the highest-traffic blog in the category, with an average traffic volume exceeding 5,000 visitors a day, over 131,000 visitors in the past 30 days, and with a Twitter count of over 40,000 followers. The blog is regularly named to top sites lists, including the Top 100 Sites for Writers by Writers Digest, who also named Joel as one of the 10 people to follow in the publishing industry.
Check it out and see if it sparks an idea for how you can combine your gifts to create work you love too.
That’s how you let your light shine in the world. No one has the gifts that you do. And when you start using them every day to help others, the money will naturally follow.
And for all you who dream of publishing a book someday, use these tips when it’s time to hire an editor. You can hire a pro word nerd without going broke.
Cheers to your success and using your common cents!
