Which merino wool underwear is better? This review will help you decide.
Chances are you want to replace synthetic fabrics in your closet with more natural fabrics like wool. Merino wool is known for being:
- natural
- comfortable
- breathable
- biodegradable
- temperature regulating
- moisture-wicking
- insulating
- high frequency (learn more)
I had started with a wool shirt and socks, then leggings, and decided underwear were next. When it comes to merino wool underwear, two brands kept showing up in my search results and feeds: Woolly and Woolx. So I decided to order both and put them to the test to see which was better.
Woolly Merino Wool Underwear
What I tested: Woolly’s Women’s Bikini Briefs
Results: Woolly seems to be a popular choice for merino wool underwear and for good reason.
- First, they’re cheaper than Woolx, so Woolly wins a point for price. There also is a 3-pack option where you can score their undies for even less.
- Second, they’re extremely comfortable.
- Third, I found the women’s brief underwear to provide more coverage. So if you have a “plump” bottom like me, Woolly wins a point for cheek coverage.
- Fourth, Woolly’s underwear are made from 95% Australian merino wool and 5% elastane. This is a higher percentage wool than most others.
- The biggest difference I noticed is that Wolly underwear were thinner (their shirts are noticeably thinner as well).
- This seemed to be the only area where Woolx outperforms Woolly underwear. However, the Woolly underwear still are great quality and seem like they will last a long time.
Merino is finer, with smaller fibers than your average wool. The fine knit holds microscopic cortices of air, helping regulate temperature and providing silky-soft comfort all day.

Woolx Merino Wool Underwear
On the other side are Woolx Merino Wool Underwear. I ordered these as the competitor because I have and love several other clothing items from Woolx, such as the long-sleeve Remi shirt below.

What I tested: Woolx Roxie Bikini Underwear (all season)
Results: The Woolx underwear were also great, with a few things to note:
- First, Woolx merino wool underwear are slightly thicker, making them slightly cozier.
- Woolx underwear and other items cost more likely because they use more wool to create thicker garments. You can get each pair cheaper if you bundle to purchase 2 or 3 pairs.
- Woolx bikini underwear have slightly less cheek coverage than Woolly’s bikini briefs.
- Woolx underwear are made from 85% merino wool, 12% nylon, and 3% spandex, so slightly less wool.
If you want the thicker pair of merino wool underwear despite the price difference, Woolx would be the way to go.
Amazing soft, comfortable, temperature-regulating clothes!
Some cheap merino wool clothing is itchy, but not this stuff.
I reach for my woolx tops, bottoms, & underwear over and over!

Woolx vs Wolly Merino Wool Women’s Underwear
Either way, I don’t think there’s a wrong choice here. I grab both brands of undies often and feel better about the fabrics that I’m wearing.
Both brands washed and dried nicely.
I can honestly recommend them both and don’t think you’ll be disappointed with whichever you choose.
Happy shopping!
