Looking for a portable outdoor chair with a canopy, but not sure which one to get?
I was in the same boat. I was looking for a gift for Father’s Day that’d be great for the upcoming baseball season, so I read many reviews and ordered three chairs to test. Two of them are rocking chairs, and one is not.

First, we have the chair I thought I wanted. It was on my wishlist for a long time. It’s the GCI Outdoor Pod Rocker. It’s an outdoor rocking chair with a UPF 50 canopy to help block the sun, rain, and wind. It looks like a cozy swing, and I thought that’d be the one my kids and I would like best.
This chair was easy to set up for one person. It was available in blue and green on Amazon. It has a more of a sling seat, and it rocks.
The canopy is simple to set up and is adjustable, which is great for creating the shade you want. It has a study frame that can support up to 250 pounds, and it includes a side phone pocket and drink holder.
The feel of this seat was unique and surprised us. The chair feels slightly tippy and off-balance when you get in and out. It didn’t actually tip, and I’m sure you’d get used to this feeling, but this wouldn’t be ideal for anyone with balance issues.
The pod seat feels like it’s squeezing you a bit, which people who enjoy that sensory feel might like, but others might not.
If you’re looking for a solid outdoor rocking chair with a canopy for under $100, this is the one for you.
This is also a good pick for someone who likes to curl up in a chair, like our child that prefers to curl up with a good book rather than watch baseball games. (She’s even started writing book reviews for kids on this blog.)

GCI Outdoor Sunshade Rocker
Next, I decided to try out a similar chair, the GCI Outdoor Sunshade Rocker. It’s also an outdoor rocking chair with a sunshade canopy UPF 50+ to help block the sun, wind, and rain. This chair can also support up to 250 pounds and is easy for one person to set up or take down.
The Sunshade Rocker has a more traditional seat with a more supportive backrest and armrests. The phone pouch and beverage holder are on the armrests rather than tucked on the side. This chair has a comfortable rocking movement and it felt more sturdy to get in and out of.
If you’re looking for more of a traditional rocking chair that’s portable, this is the winner (and the one we kept).

Double Beach Chair with Canopy Shade
Finally, I was intrigued by this Double Beach Chair with Canopy Shade and Cooler Bag. For around the same price as one chair, you can get two! Each seat supports up to 220 pounds.
My favorite part of this double chair was the insulated cooler bag between the two seats. The cooler can hold a lot, so you wouldn’t need to bring a separate cooler. Below’s a look at the cooler with one can of Spindrift inside for an idea of space. I was surprised by how spacious it is.
It would also create the most shade and privacy since it can have a canopy shade on all four sides–yet you can see through the mesh section.
It also has the biggest pocket for a tablet, phones, or snacks. The chairs have a traditional outdoor camping chair feel with armrests and a cup holder.
Since this double canopy chair is so large, it is decently heavy and would be difficult for one person to set up and take down. We had two adults for setup and takedown.
I could see families who camp a lot or spend all day at outdoor sports games enjoying this double chair because it offers more shade and privacy than most canopies, and it has nice storage space for drinks, snacks, and electronics.
