I used to say yes to almost any hand-me-down. Those gifts of used clothing, furniture, and toys helped us during our toughest financial times. I had a scarcity mindset that there wasn’t enough money for all the stuff I needed.

But now I’m much more content in the minimalist camp. Just give me a few awesome items that work really well, improve our health, or help us make happy memories.
The same goes with my makeup. I don’t need much and I will invest money in a few good quality products instead of a pile of crappy ones I don’t like.
5 Items in My Minimalist Makeup Collection
After pitching everything that was old or unused, my makeup collection is down to five beauty essentials that I like to call the minimalist makeup collection.
Here’s what’s in it.
1. Tinted Moisturizer or Foundation
Tint Skin from Beauty Counter is a hydrating foundation and after my first use, it instantly became an essential to my makeup collection. If it’s a makeup day, this is the first thing I put on.

3. Mascara
A close second favorite in my minimalist makeup bag is Tarte Cosmetics Lights Camera Lashes Natural Mascara. I’ve tried many different mascaras over the years and this is my favorite!
2. Face Powder
Some days I also put on a mineral powder. I have a Physician’s Formula Super BB Powder and I like it. Unlike foundation or mascara, I haven’t found I love or hate powders. This is more widely available at Walmart, Target, and Amazon.
4. Tinted Chapstick
Not sure if chapstick counts as makeup but I’m a fan of Burt’s Bees Natural Lip Balm in Pomegranate. I have one at my desk, in my purse, in the car…you know how that goes. Plus, if you’re ever looking for a cheap stocking stuffer or gift filler, Burt’s Bees lip balm is the way to go.

5. Mineral Blush
The final item in my makeup routine is mineral blush powder. I went out on a limb and ordered Everyday Minerals Cheek. Ok, not really. I read about 50 reviews and put it through the EWG database first. After all that research I’m happy with this buy. I chose a subtle shimmery pink that’s just enough pink cheek for me.
